(In the context of Catholic Church scandals from the near past, this is not supposed to disrespect the religion but the clergy who runs it and some unnatural rules creating immense psychological issues)
People on earth, look at me
Cross in my hand, authority
Words I speak, are words of God
Ignore your instincts, obey thee
Colour in my eyes, may be lecherous
Your time in church, will be treacherous
Pain you suffer, humiliation you incur
In the name of the Lord, we hit you hard
Altar boys, kneel before me
ignore my insanity, vanity, profanity
Nightmares you have, suicide you crave
I thought you understood
It for your own good,
Our desires need to be fulfilled
You were available,
So you were grilled
Don’t speak up, consequences dire
I will go higher, cardinal aspire
You move along too,
Try to live the life you want to
Throw your empty soul in the bin
I will beg forgiveness for my sins
That is quite fair, church bells ringing
Time for my prayer!!

of the heavy wooden doors. Silence does not keep quiet there. My heart bleeds for those boys….

I agree with your comment, and loved the poem and the truth it portrayed. I always teach my children that true happiness in life will NOT be found inside “religion”, that in order to experience happiness and peace of the soul, the need to see out a “relationship” with God. Religion helps to facilitate that relationship, but is never going to be a substitute.

Such a sad story and well told in your poem. And I believe in my heart that those priests will stand before God almighty and be held accountable. Thank God that the church is slowly accepting responsibility here on earth. God bless the victims.

Thank you for your support and kind comment. I just hope that they are also curing the system, there is an inherent issue with lifelong celibacy due to it being unnatural, in my humble opinion it will always create psychological issues in a minority of the church, the question is how do they monitor behaviours and how do they make sure this doesn’t happen again. Based on whatever I have heard, which is not much, it does not sound promising!

Yes, of course, you are absolutely right. I remember hearing too that a lot of this despicable behavior began in the Catholic church in the 60s when all men of any sexual nature were accepted into the priesthood and told to be celibate. And many of them broke their vows.I hope and pray Pope Francis will have the wisdom to guide the church . Monitor? This would be very hard. . .wouldn’t it?

Hence slight gloom on my part on fixing the issue since there is inherent weakness called human desires and religion or establishment which do not accept it are just living a lie. I don’t think the problem is only around sexual orientation or existing psychological state when someone joins the clergy. Think big jails in the US for both women and man the behaviour and habits change due to restricted environment!!

Unfortunate reality. Religion kills, relationship brings life. And that’s why God created us in the first place. For relationship. Seems so simple, yet us silly little finite humans like to complicate things.

A powerful and poignant poem, which digs deep at the heart of those who profess to be of God… ‘SHAME!’ is the correct title for this piece… and there is unfortunately still more shame to be revealed from those who hide behind the cloth and cross…
A priest here in the UK has just received a 15 year prison sentence for the Shame of his alter boy/girl crimes…

Great poem AB.
There’s this one verse in the Bible that I love in the translation, “The Message”. It goes like this:
“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out.”
That’s what following God means to me. “In your everday life, eating, drinking, walking around, in the mundane and the routine.”

Many thanks for quoting bible so beautifully. All religious scripture talk about beautiful things, teach humanity to humans, some of us then use these scriptures and power them bring to absolutely horrific means. It is such shameful state of affairs when you look at Catholic clergy scandals, ISIS and other jihadis in Muslim world doing abominable things to fellow humans torturing and killing them, pogroms in India in the name of Hindutiva, massive killing and castigation of more then a million people in Palestine in the name of securing future for Judaism, I try to understand whether we have done anything proper what those religions demand of us. I am feel ashamed as a human for our combined guilt. What are we doing to this beautiful world and it’s amazing inhabitants is beyond belief.

I hear you AB, loud and clear. Religion and especially fundamentalism has done a ton of damage in the name of God. Because I’m a Christian, I believe that Jesus did not come for that. He abhorred the very thought of it. He never came to establish religion, but relationship restored to God. Religion, in and of itself, is basically and organization or institution behind a movement. And Christ did not come to start an institution, or give a set of rules. He came to bring values and principles.
Unfortunately AB, our world is lost. People are lost. God gave us a beautiful creation and we aren’t doing very well with it, are we?
