Words
come slow
gently like breeze
then wind picks up
brewing inside, a fearless storm
gusts bellow, telling tales, ferocious gales
Sonnets just drop, crescendos scream, epics astound
rain and thunder, makes mind mellow, stories asunder,
calmness returns, destruction immense, words don’t, make any sense

Thank you for liking “Pomegranate Blossoms.” Wonderful poem! 🙂 I like being inspired enough that my words flow freely and quickly and beautifully like the words in this poem do, but this is usually not what happens to me. Writing poetry for me is often a sporadic affair. Sometimes I am able to write a poem at home on my computer in one sitting, but there are times when I end up writing parts of poems on different pieces of scratch paper shoved in my purse or on the back of store receipts while I am in a waiting room or waiting to pick my dad up from somewhere. I have also had some success typing out poems in the notepad of my out-of-date cell phone. I sort of enjoy using my phone notepad because I am limited to so many characters, and that helps me focus and choose my words carefully. What I hate about doing this is that inevitably someone will interrupt me. I don’t know why no one bothers me when I write on paper. 🙂

    I sometimes wonder where all of my poems come from. Some of my initial drafts don’t make any sense too, or I will have no idea about what to write until the last minute.

      1. It is fun to discover that you write poems with the notes feature of your phone too. 🙂

        Your approach of letting your thoughts flow freely while writing reminds me of a brainstorming technique I learned in my English classes called freewriting. When you freewrite, you are supposed to write anything that comes to your mind nonstop for a few minutes. The purpose of freewriting is to help you generate ideas for an essay or other piece of writing, and it may help you overcome writer’s block too. I have tried doing this, but it does not work very well for me.

        Lately, what has happened to me is that I will write poems based on ideas that I get when I comment on other people’s posts. The process of typing comments into the reply box sometimes helps me come up with a phrase or thought that catches my attention, and I will use it as the foundation for a new poem. My “technique” seems more like word association than freewriting.

        I don’t like posting recent pictures of myself on my blogs, but I have been thinking about emailing you a more recent picture of myself if you are interested. The only problem is that the most recent portraits I have were taken ten years ago. A few weeks ago, I had some photos taken at work for a booklet they are putting together, and I might be able to get a copy of one of those pictures but I am not sure.
