heart cries intense screams
eyes long for loved ones
decades have depart
thousand miles apart
faces can be seen
voices could be heard
slow burning melody of
a melancholy bird
embraces are missing
devoid of kissing,
cheeks, forehead, lips
mind runs and trips
soul dips, in darkest valleys
bottomless oceans
ferocious storms are no match
when hearts latch
on universes’ strength
desire to cross all paths
deserts, land swaths
inveterate sighs, bare feet fly,
without thinking, I will die
but, surely will get there
even in a coffin
to receive that embrace
when tears runs uncontrollably
moistening, cleansing, soul of sins
violations will find redeeming bins
rightful recipient to arrive
in sheets of alpine white
what a sight, that would be
of uncountable kisses on
cheeks, forehead, lips
time will slip, so go catch
quickly fetch, tightly latch
on that flight of sweet smell
first drops of rain
on arid memory lane
they eagerly await
but can’t forever

Nice golden sky, AB. Is it snow or sky?

I do feel that very same eternal yearning at times. Stunning as always, both image and thoughts, AB.

Humbled by the compliment, AB. We both know yours is not just an “ok” read and many will back me up on that. š

A beautiful description of the immigrant experience, as well as the longing for those lost to us in death.

Rekha, appreciate the care shown, I am perfectly fine, was listening to a raag in Sur Marvi and these words came flowing out of nowhere, otherwise all is well š

While it also reminds me of the immigrant experience, this poem immediately made me think of people in refugee camps (especially Syrians). They have not been in refugee camps for “decades”, but the last line really seemed to fit: “they eagerly await / but canāt forever”.
Thanks for sharing this powerful poem.

Thank you for sharing your views and linking it an absolute human tragedy, I hope, wish and pray that situation gets better soon for them and so many other refugees in the world.

Eternal yearning, indeed! There is no end. It is like the horizon in your photograph. We never know when one longing ends and the other starts. It all seems continuous.

I hope all is well with you too, AB.

That is really good to know Shirley, May you remain well and content rest of the days. To borrow an old clichƩ I am fit as a fiddle, and thank you so much for your generous appreciation of my work.

That’s the downside of self-hosting while using WordPress framework. But lots of upside though. Fool-proof way is to subscribe via email, but not everyone is up for that. So, I am glad you are able to follow via WP, AB. Much appreciated. š
