A beat is missing

I wrote a song in the middle of the night
of broken hearts and sad souls
Why we fall so miserably for our emotions
Wanting, needing, grabbing, feeding affection
It could be lust, infatuation
Just doesn’t let us think
And we sing a song in the middle of the night

  2. Did you try swapping around the ‘write’ and ‘sing’? – for some reason, I read it like that, and then realised what I was doing. Think about it.
    It’s terrific, AB.

      1. I am honestly regard your opinion highly M R, here is the thing, never been to university, English as third language, never read English poetry other than Wordsworth’s rhymes etc, so anything I can get from someone like you is a bonus. Always had a high regards for my teacher 🙂

      2. But I’m not qualified, AB! – my postgraduate certificate was in editing & publishing (which latter subject I learned NOTHING from, alas!) …

      3. M R apologies, no pressure, I meant to say, it is great knowing you and I do consider your advice seriously, just trying to show my weaknesses so you understand that I do make mockery of heartfelt advice 🙂

  3. Being a strong feeler, I know all too well how feelings and emotions can blind a person. Very difficult to use reason and logic during these times.

  5. Thank you for liking “America’s Ancient Past: Part 1.” Wonderful post! 🙂 I am drawn to this poem because it makes me think about how much is bubbling under the surface of our minds — emotions, regrets, and memories. I suppose it is a good thing that we are not always thinking about all of these things all of the time or we will go crazy! And then somewhere in the midst of our conscious and unconscious thoughts and feelings is creativity and the altered state of consciousness it brings . . . 🙂
