Reflection

memories longing forgiveness

when nothing could be done

to undo, relive past

why time and tide

ebbs, flows fast

leaving no moment

to reflect, adjust, adapt

errors of judgement,

random acts of subterfuge,

insensitive words deluge,

destroy what is near, dear

to the heart and soul

nothing remains untouched, whole

only too much time to reflect

your loneliness

  1. Thank you for liking β€œIlliteracy in America Infographic.” Beautiful poem, AB! πŸ™‚ I don’t mind that it is somewhat sad. It is fitting that it should be that way because reflection, especially self-reflection, is not always a pleasant experience. If you live long enough, you will not escape being riddled by some regrets. Then there is the mental mire of remembered mistakes, which sweeps you back to the folly of youth and what has been lost because of anger, pride, and other dark emotions. You can console yourself that you have learned from them, but the pain of learning the hard way stays with you.

      1. Thank you, AB. πŸ™‚ Most of us do not like to face our imperfections in quiet moments when we are alone, and it is sometimes even harder to forgive ourselves for having them. But at some point and to some degree you have to let go of them or you will not be able to continue to grow as a person. This came to my mind after recently reading some intense posts from fellow WordPress bloggers.

      2. Yes, it does. In some ways, it is easier for me to let go of past mistakes and not agonize over my imperfections now that I am older. When I look back at my life, I laugh at some of the things I thought were important. They seem so shallow and trivial to me now. I know that the rest of my life won’t be “blooper-free,” but I hope that I won’t blunder too badly. πŸ™‚

      3. Thanks, AB. πŸ™‚ Yes, I guessed that something came up that you had to attend to. I hope you are okay and that nothing bad happened. You know that I will wait for you when you get busy. I never run out of things to do myself. πŸ™‚

      4. You are welcome. πŸ™‚ I am glad that all is well. Yes, I also find it difficult to resist the temptation to take on too many projects at the same time. Then I constantly tell you that I do not get enough sleep. πŸ™‚

      5. You are welcome. πŸ™‚ I am probably paraphrasing a quote I read somewhere when I say what little wisdom I possess was gained from many years of being a fool. And I don’t consider myself “foolproof” now! πŸ™‚
